This image of Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley National Park results from constant 50+ mph winds blowing the sand all over the place. Add in some soft side light and a brave person standing on top of a dune, and you have some wonderful ingredients.
I shot this with my 70-200 punched in all the way at 200mm to compress the scene and really emphasize the layers of the dunes. To show how crazy the winds were I had to use a slower shutter speed to get the motion blur in the bushes as well as the blowing sand. Because of the high winds it was actually moving my camera which when using slower shutters makes for blurry pictures so from the many photos I took, one or two were actually in focus.
I hope you enjoy, and as always, feel free to share with your friends!
Now back to cleaning sand out of my ears, and all of my gear...
